Compaction Testing (Nuclear Gauge)

Compaction testing with a nuclear density gauge measures the in-place density and moisture content of compacted soil and aggregate base, so the project team can confirm fill meets the compaction requirements in the geotechnical report and specifications.

Typical scope

  • In-place density and moisture readings with a nuclear gauge
  • Relative compaction compared to the specified maximum dry density
  • Testing of backfill, subgrade, fill lifts and aggregate base
  • Field reporting of test locations and results

When it's typically required

Utility trench backfill, building pads, wall backfill, subgrade and base below slabs and paving.

Inspection requirements are set by the approved plans, the statement of special inspections and the building official. Share your plan sheets when requesting so we can confirm scope.
